Meet Shinko Motomura
Born and raised in Nagasaki, Japan, Shinko moved to Vancouver, BC, in the 1990s. For over 15 years, she has been crafting authentic Japanese tableware, each piece shaped, glazed, and fired with intention and care.

The Process
Each piece is shaped, fired, and finished with care, resulting in a unique creation, no two are exactly alike.
Designing
Each piece is carefully planned, with shape, proportions, and glazing in mind.
Shaping
Clay is thrown on the wheel or hand-built, shaped with intention and care.
Drying
Pieces rest and dry slowly over a few days, letting the clay reach the perfect firmness.
Bisque Firing
The first firing transforms soft clay into durable ceramic at 1945°C.
Glazing
Each piece is carefully glazed, creating unique colors and textures.
Final Firing
The glaze firing at 2232°C brings the piece to its finished state.
